Budget Credibility of Total Receipts
Budgets, inherently, involve projections as they are about future. However, the actual collection, often, turns out to be different than the projections. While some amount of mismatch is expected due to uncertainty involved in projection, budgets which are more accurately able to predict the actual collection are considered more credible.
This visualisation depicts that as percentage of budget estimates, how actuals turn out to be for the period of 2016-17 to 2019-20. During this period, the average budget credibility for receipts projections for all states combined is 89%, meaning actual collection have been different from budget estimates by 11%. Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal and Mizoram have been most accurate in receipt projections, while projections for Karnataka, Meghalaya and Assam have been most off the mark.
