Change in States' Education Budgets during the Pandemic
The pandemic led to long-term disruptions in students' education with the closure of schools and the adoption of digital modes of learning in place of traditional classrooms. In this context, government budgets have a crucial role to play for revamping the learning systems in place and to ensure inclusive education for all. The metric below represents how the states have provisioned for the education sector in 2021-22. The map shows a comparative picture of the change in a state's education budget over this period (as well as the trend in total education budgets over the last few years). States like West Bengal, Kerala and Telangana saw a rise in education spending of over 10%; many others saw a smaller increase, and Chhattisgarh and Haryana saw a decline.
